Treasury To Announce Overhaul Of Financial Regulation
(Washington, DC) -- The Bush administration is proposing to overhaul the regulation of U.S. financial markets.
Under the proposal, the Fed would have unprecedented but generally undefined powers to regulate all financial markets to guarantee stability.
The proposal calls for the first major realignment of federal financial regulations since FDRs reforms during the Great Depression.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is scheduled to announce the sweeping and historic reforms today.

Remains Of Missing Soldier Found
(Washington, DC) -- The remains of an American soldier captured by insurgents nearly four years ago in Iraq have been identified.
Sergeant Keith Maupin, an Army reservist from Batavia, Ohio, was captured in 2004 when his convoy was attacked near Baghdad.
A Defense Department official says his remains were found last week, but the results of a DNA test just came in.
Maupins father says the family was informed of the news yesterday by a three-star Army general at the support center for service members and families run by the Maupins near Cincinnati.

Woman Attacked By Cheetah Expected To Leave Hospital
(Wellington, FL) -- A Florida woman who was attacked by two cheetahs over the weekend is expected to leave the hospital today.
Judy Berens was bitten more than 40 times on her arms, legs and back during Saturdays attack at the Panther Ridge Conservation Center in Wellington.
The cheetahs attacked Berens while she was conducting a show inside the cage.
Investigators believe a kid bouncing a ball on the outside of the enclosure likely provoked the attack.
Berens was airlifted to the hospital after being rescued by onlookers.

Human Fetus Found On Continental Flight
(Houston, TX) -- Houston homicide detectives are investigating reports of a human fetus found on a Continental Airlines flight.
A cleaning crew found it in a trash can in one of the planes bathrooms about an hour after landing at Bush Intercontinental in Texas yesterday afternoon.
A medical examiner will decide the cause of the death for the fetus, but so far no crime is alleged to have occurred.
FBI agents are contacting people who were on the flight from New Yorks LaGuardia airport to see if they have any information.

Woman Runs Down Husband After Church Service
(Molalla, OR) -- An Oregon woman is being charged with running down her husband with her car in a church parking lot as the service let out.
Authorities say 20-year-old Anabel Maldonado and her 21-year-old husband, Brandon Barker, were arguing about their ten-month-old child while still inside the Saint James Catholic Church in Molalla.
Push came to shove in the parking lot and the separated.
Maldonado then got into her car and ran Barker over as he walked by, trapping him under the vehicle.
Barker is listed in fair condition at a local hospital.

Joyriding Eight-Year-Old Due In Court Today
(Hamtramck, MI) -- An eight-year-old Michigan boy is due in juvenile court for allegedly taking his fathers car on a joyride damaging several homes and vehicles in the process.
Witnesses said a number of residents ran outside and tried to stop the child but he continued several blocks before stopping.
The boys father said he took a sleeping pill before laying down for a nap which is when he suspects his son took the car.

Gambling Flick "21" Wins Box Office Jackpot
(Los Angeles, CA) -- The gambling drama "21" hit the box office jackpot.
The movie raked in about 23-point-seven-million-dollars in theaters over the weekend.
"21" pushed the previous top film, "Dr. Seuss Horton Hears A Who!" off the podium and into second place with nearly 17-and-a-half-million-dollars.
The comedy spoof "Superhero Movie" debuted in third place with nine-and-a-half-million.
"Meet the Browns" placed fourth with nearly eight-million-dollars, and "Drillbit Taylor" made nearly six-million-dollars for fifth place.
