The opening of the I-69 comes at one of the peak travel times of the
year. With the holiday travel season in full swing and a new highway to
look after, ISP has a lot on their plate.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Todd Ringle is used to driving because its, well, part of his job. However, he's not used to driving I-69 because, then again, no one is.
"It's my second time," said Sgt. Ringle. "I traveled SR 57 quite often. It's a highway that's still in great shape but it always took, in my opinion, a long time to get from Evansville to Petersburg."
And everywhere else in between. Indiana State Police's Evansville Post already patrols hundreds if not thousands of miles. You can add another 28 from their portion of I-69. Every additional mile brings more responsibility.
"It's important, I-69 is a new highway and we know people will be traveling this highway," said Sgt. Ringle. "Because it's such a nice highway, our fear is that people are going to think they can drive 80, 90, 100 mph and that's not going to be the case."
Sgt. Ringle also says the new highway will bring the potential for increased drug trafficking. Troopers from around the Evansville District will team up to patrol the new highway on a daily basis.
