A Dubois County woman is trying to turn her heartache into a positive message. Michelle Sims' husband was killed by a drunk driver in 2005, now she wants to spread the message of the dangers of driving after you've had too much to drink.
Some wounds never heal.  For Michelle Sims, her husband's death is one of those.  Her daughter, only two years old at the time of the accident, is now understanding where her father is.  But Michelle hopes no other family will go through this.
It was the knock that changed Michelle Sims' life forever.  "My father in law knocked on my door," she remembers. "I asked him 'What's wrong?', and he said, 'You may want to sit down.'"
Her husband, Sean, had been hit by a drunk driver on his way to work and killed. Now more than seven years past, Sims says she's through focusing on the pain, and ready turn it into something positive.
Sims did some research, eventually connecting with nationally recognized speaker Chris Sandy.  Sandy was the drunk driver in a 2000 accident that killed two people.
"He spent eight years in jail," says Sims.  "And when he got out he started speaking to high school kids, to college kids about the dangers of driving drunk."
Now Sims is raising money.  Hoping to bring Sandy in to speak with several area high schools, hoping to teach young people the message, before it's too late.
Sims says her fundraising goal is $5,000.  For more information on how you can get involved, visit our links page.
