EPD Unveils First Natural Gas-Fueled Fleet Vehicle

By: Jenny Hunt
Updated: November 27, 2012
The Evansville Police Department unveiled its new crime scene investigation van Tuesday. It's the first natural gas-fueled vehicle owned and operated by a police department in the state of Indiana.
Chief Billy Bolin says the van uses a third less fuel than traditional vehicles and is better for the environment.
"This is only one in a large fleet but its a test vehicle and we're hoping if this is successful we can start converting more of our street vehicles to the compressed natural gas, with the rising cost of gas and the size of our fleet anything we can do is better and if it helps the environment and saves money it's a win-win", Bolin said.
The EPD Foundation paid for the new vehicle which is a 2012 Ford E250 commercial cargo van. Vectren is the Community Sponsor for the foundation.
