Fuel Costs Prompt Fee Hikes At Delta

Soaring Fuel Costs Prompt Fee Hikes At Delta Air Lines (Atlanta, GA) -- Starting today Delta Air Lines will charge you three dollars to check your bag at curbside. The fee is one of the ways Delta is trying to cover the soaring cost of jet fuel. Delta is also going to levy a 25 dollars handling charge for booking an a Delta award ticket on another airline through a Delta representative. That "handling charge" is in addition to Deltas fee for booking on the telephone. That fee is now 25 dollars, up from 20 dollars. Also, effective May 1st, Delta will start charging 50 dollars a round trip to check a second bag. A company spokeswoman says Deltas attempts to raise fares have not been successful because the airline needs to remain competitive. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-04-01-08 0943CDT
