Man Shot By Vanderburgh County Deputy Identified

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: December 4, 2012
UPDATE: The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office has identified the man shot and killed by a Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputy on Tuesday.  He is 55-year-old Lindal Johnson.

We are continuing to watch for new developments.

PREVIOUS: A deputy with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office apparently shot and killed a person near the University of Southern Indiana early Tuesday morning.

Investigators are still sorting out the details, but here is what we know.  Deputies responded to a vandalism call on Broadway Avenue just after 1:00 Tuesday morning.  Something happened that caused the officer to call for backup.  When deputies got to 6200 Short Selzer Road, one of them fired his weapon.

We are told one person is dead, but it is not a deputy.

We are continuing to follow this story and will bring you additional information as it becomes available.  For more pictures from the scene, visit our Facebook page.
