Hundreds of EVSC students in need will now have the chance to own gently used shoes but with a twist, these shoes are the government's property having been seized from a local drug dealing operation. This is the first time in the nation an event like this has been done, usually seized items are put up for sale instead of being offered for donations. Federal and local agencies are teaming together to promote "Operation Goodwill," a national program to build better relationships between law enforcement and the community. U.S Attorney Joe Hogsett, Sheriff Eric Williams, the DEA and others gathered at Washington Middle School in Evansville to make the announcement. All these shoes are worth close to twelve thousand dollars and were seized in a River City drug raid two years ago. Sheriff Williams says if the wrongdoings of drug dealers can become a positive for our kids then this program is a success. In total, there's almost 150 pairs of shoes that will be donated to deserving children in the EVSC.
