VCSO Conducts Sex Offender Verification Exercise

By: Jenny Hunt
Updated: December 6, 2012
Law enforcement in Vanderburgh County performed unexpected checks on sex and violent offenders this week. Members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshal's Sex Offender Unit, the Indiana Dept. of Corrections Parole, and Indiana State Police took part in the random sweeps Tuesday and Wednesday.

The results of the verification exercise are:
203 Verified sex or violent offenders
37 Not Verified, though authorities say they are working to verify these
10 Criminal reports for non-compliance with registry requirements
1 Felony arrest related to absconded sex offenders
4 Misdemeanor citations for invalid identifications
10 Unrelated felony arrests

Authorities say the recent sweep is in addition to random checks that are conducted on a regular basis.
Residents of Vanderburgh County can find the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry on the Sheriff's website www.vanderburghsheriff.com.
