In today's age of technology you'd think the idea of writing a letter is old fashioned, well in the tri-state's second largest city some fourth graders not only wrote their mayor, but in return he paid them a visit. Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne says he was so moved after 75 kids wrote business letters in appreciation of the new Smothers Park while also giving suggestions on how to improve it. The hands were raised high in the sky as Mayor Payne stopped by, he says this goes to show that elected officials listen to their constituents even those still in grade school. The mayor says the ideas were no walk in the park, from more fountains and swings to better lighting, no slide was left unturned. Shetiah Wilson loves to have fun but says safety is key to fulfill her favorite tasks. While the q&a session is underway, Mayor Payne says this visit is doing more than providing answers. They can't vote yet, but the impact these fourth graders have on this elected official is a lasting one. Mayor Payne says some of the student's ideas of more slides, cameras and lighting are already in the works.
