Tri-State Gun Owners React To New Gun Policy

Gun control is the forefront issue now following the Connecticut tragedy, and President Obama's newest pledge. Wednesday, the President announced his first concrete steps in addressing the debate on gun control.  Vice President Joe Biden will lead an inter-agency task force, which will develop new gun policy for the country.

Since Friday's tragedy in Connecticut, one Warrick County gun shop has seen an increase in business.  The general manager says they've sold out of several items, and they believe customers are worried that a future ban could go through.

President Barack Obama addressed the nation saying he believes in Americans' right to own guns, but it may be time to get tough on military style assault rifles and high capacity ammunition magazines.

"And the fact is the vast majority of gun owners in America are responsible. They buy their guns legally and they use them safely, whether for hunting or sport shooting, collection or protection. But you know what, I am also betting that the majority, the vast majority, of responsible law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say that we should be able to keep an irresponsible law breaking few from buying a weapon of war," President Obama said.

The President's announcement on gun violence and the Connecticut elementary school massacre are hot topics inside Bucks & Jakes Outfitters in Boonville.

"The real problem here is you had someone snap, flip out, and kill a bunch of people.  If you used a machete, chain saw, or truck, nobody is going to ban those things," David Moseley said.

Gun owners aren't wasting any time.  General Manager, Lawrence Fichter says some customers are buying in bulk.  In fact, he says they have sold out of high capacity AR magazines, which hold up to 40 rounds.

"I think it's a knee jerk reaction.  I think as soon as you think like this, the people that don't like guns, are scared of guns, instantly want to get rid of them and that's not the way to do it," Lawrence Fichter said.

Some gun owners say guns haven't changed, but society has.  The President says he hopes this push will prevent more tragedies like the one in Connecticut.

The NRA has scheduled a news conference Friday morning in Washington D.C. regarding the Connecticut school shooting.

President Obama says he wants the task force to come up with usable solutions by next month.

I honestly hope our guns don't get taken away from us. My heart goes out to all the kids and families in Connecticut though. We do need gun restrictions! I have an ex-friend (Heather O'Nann Mills) that is now a felon because she held a gun to her ex-boyfriends head and threatened to kill him..that's crazy! This woman is shady though i later found out she had one of my babies without my consent and was drugging me and raping me in my sleep (along with her ex-husband Larry Vowels) in efforts to frame me and get some of my money (I'm a Millionaire) People will do just about ANYTHING for money!
