Once neglected and close to death, a very special dog makes a remarkable recovery. You can find Wink at It Takes a Village Canine Rescue in Evansville. The rescue group took Wink under their wing from local animal control a few months ago.

He had what's called an embedded collar. His former owners tied a jump-rope around his neck and never loosened it as he grew bigger. The rope became embedded in his skin, and he almost had to be put down. After successful surgery and a $700 vet bill, he's healthy and happy.

"It was sad," said Pamela Gibson of It Takes a Village Canine Rescue. "It's sad to see any dog, especially one where you can't imagine. If you just think about it, he's out there with a jump rope around his neck that is way too tight. He's just as lovable as he could be and it's hard to see that. "

Wink is available for adoption along with many other dogs. They are always accepting donations and volunteers.
