Check Road Conditions Through Transportation Websites, Not 911 Dispatch

By: Jenny Hunt
Updated: December 20, 2012
A reminder tonight from the Indiana State Police as our first winter storm of the season presses across the tri-state: make sure you slow down on the road.
The most common cause of crashes during snow or icy weather is drivers going too fast and hitting slick patches in the road, according to troopers.
If you'd like to check the road conditions, you're asked to call 1-800-261-7623 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-800-261-7623 FREE  end_of_the_skype_highlighting or visit INDOT's website at trafficwise.in.gov.
Troopers ask that you don't call 911 or your local police department for that information. It's important to keep those phone lines open for emergency calls only.
To check Kentucky road conditions you can check the state department's link at 511.ky.gov.
For Illinois road conditions head to www.dot.state.il.us.
