Tri-State residents continue to honor the many lives lost in the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. People in Henderson and Boonville held vigils Thursday night in memory of the 20 children and six adults gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Warrick County residents, first responders and teachers gathered around the town's square to remember the victims, while people in Henderson used the time to start a conversation about how to keep children safe in their own community.

"You know when they say that's the one that's unspeakable? This is the unspeakable one. This is the one that woke up everyone and I think our whole nation is woke up," says Robert Pruitt, Henderson City Commission. "We're gonna have to make some tough decisions, we're gonna have to make sure we make the right decisions, and we gotta get away from what's politically correct and let's do what's right for the kids."

Many of those who attended the vigils tell Eyewitness News they find comfort and healing in grieving together as a unified community.
