Indiana Road Crews Prepare For Approaching Storm

By: David Shepherd
Updated: December 25, 2012
The blizzard conditions that are expected to hit the Tri-State Christmas night in to Wednesday will make driving difficult, if not impossible, in some areas.  Heavy snowfall is expected in many parts of the Eyewitness News viewing area.

Add the strong winds, blowing snow is expected to reduce visibilities and could create near white-out conditions.

Indiana Department of Transportation officials say they are already per-treating bridges and roadways.

They are focusing on more than 30,000 miles of interstates and highways across the state. INDOT also encourages everyone to pay attention to forecasts as the storm approaches the Tri-State area.

The Gibson County Sheriff's Department released a statement Christmas day warning drivers about the impending storm.

"A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel, if you must travel have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded stay with your vehicle."

If you have road condition questions, please do not call 911. Here are the road conditions numbers:

Indiana 1-800-261-7623
Illinois 1-800-452-4368
Kentucky 1-866-737-3767
