Evansville Police confirm to Eyewitness News that two people have died after an accident involving a scooter on Covert Avenue.

The accident happened a little after noon Wednesday. Vanderburgh County Coroner Annie Groves says 26-year-old Heather Johnson and 42-year-old Joel Elliott of Evansville died in the accident at the corner of Covert Ave. and Hicks Drive.

Officers say the two were driving in the right-hand lane of Covert Ave. At some point, officers say, they lost control and slid through the intersection and were hit by a truck traveling on Hicks. Investigators spent several hours this afternoon re-constructing the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

We'll have more on this story as it develops later today on Eyewitness News.
