Sam Strong Fundraiser Receives Strong Community Support

A Newburgh teen may not win his battle with cancer, but he hopes to help others beat the disease thanks to a special benefit tonight. Hundreds of people attended the Sam Strong: Search for a Cure fundraiser tonight at St. John the Baptist Church in Newburgh. It includes a silent auction with all proceeds going to cancer research at St. Jude's Hospital.
The event was thought up by Sam Featherstone who has been fighting cancer for three years now. Sam's parents say they are overjoyed by the event's turnout.
"It's grown from just an event that was going to be for a few friends to a community-wide event," says Sam's mom Tammy, "and we're very thankful for the support from everyone."
"All of the awareness and the funds that are being raised to help other families not have to go through the struggles is Sam's dream" said Sam's dad Andy, "and it's a dream come true tonight."
The fundraiser goes until 11 p.m.
