Roads range from clear, to patchy, to completely inaccessible. County roads are by far in the worst condition. While most primary county roads are clear, many secondary roadways are snow covered and too dangerous for standard vehicles to travel. Deputies have responded to dozens of slide-offs since the blizzard hit. They say hitting the breaks is the worst thing drivers can do if they start to slide.
"As soon as you hit your breaks all four wheels are going to lock up and you're going to go sliding into whatever direction you're going at that time. Try to stay off the breaks and steer yourself out of the skid," says Gibson County Sheriff Deputy Roger Ballard.
Residents are being asked to stay off the roads if possible. If you must drive, deputies recommend you carry an emergency kit in your vehicle along with a fully charged cell phone.
