After years of economic hardship and uncertainty for millions of Americans, many of us are hoping that things will take a positive turn in 2013. Now, a new report suggests that things are looking up.

Ford is releasing its first-ever trend report, Looking Further with Ford, revealing predictions about consumer habits and behaviors expected to shape 2013 and beyond. From the return of trust in companies and brands to the rise of personal accountability, global data from the trend report suggest the year 2013 will be one marked by acceptance and optimism rather than mistrust and disappointment. Beyond the automotive industry this report offers insight into what may influence consumers' values, attitudes and behaviors. The report found the following regarding consumer's outlook and behavior:

  • 65% believe 'they and their friends can change corporate behavior by supporting companies that do the right thing'

  • 65% agree with the statement: "Since the recession, I realize I am happier with a simpler, more down-to-earth lifestyle"

  • More than 40% of boomers say they plan to take classes or "learn something new" while retired

Paul Hochman and Sheryl Connelly revealed the 13 consumer trends they expect to see in 2013, and discussed three themes that have emerged from these trends. From the importance of brand trust and the economics of local pride, to the brands that are getting it right when it comes to consumer loyalty and reputation, learn what consumers say are the most important issues for them, and how it will shape our outlook for the year ahead.
