Mt. Vernon Man Faces Residential Entry Charge

By: Chris Veech
Updated: January 1, 2013
Mt. Vernon man is in jail after officials say entered a woman's apartment using a master key. Forrest Smith is in the Vanderburgh County Jail facing a residential entry charge.

Deputies say a woman called 9-1-1 after several knocks at her door around 2 a.m. She never let the man inside since the peep hole was covered. She says the man claimed he needed to change the air filters and check the heat. With a master key, officials say Smith went into the girl's apartment, heading towards her bedroom but quickly left.

Once on scene, authorites questioned Smith, who said he drove from Mt. Vernon and is the complex maintenance man. He's being held on $1,000 cash bond.
