Maggie Lloyd, who is the first female Superior Court Judge in the history of Vanderburg County, also read the oath to several of the other women. Both Lloyd and Annie Groves, the Vanderburgh County Coroner, say blazing the trail for other women is an important part of the legacy they'd like to leave for their daughters. Lloyd explains, "It just so happens I have a daughter, and I say to her all the time, 'You can be whatever you want to be,' but I firmly believe that females need to go ahead and open up those doors for them.
Lloyd goes on to say, "I want her to see this and to be encouraged that she doesn't have anything holding her back. The only thing that'll hold ya back is yourself. So you gotta try, and when you see all these successful women, it's encouraging, and it's encouraging to other women."
Annie Groves is also the first female coroner in the history of Vanderburgh County. After the inauguration, a ceremony was held to honor our veterans.
