Pet Hamster Survives Microwave
(Lake County, CA) -- Bugsy the pet hamster is going to be okay after she was allegedly microwaved twice by two teenage girls who attend Lower Lake High School in Lake County, California.
Animal Control Officer Morgan Hermann called the case a sickening act of animal cruelty, saying the girls did it out of boredom.
Hermann says Bugsys feet started to burn after she was put in the microwave, and the pets first instinct was to "chew off the burning feet." However, Hermann says the hamster is now back to being content and bounding around despite her injuries.
The two girls, ages 14 and 15, were taken to juvenile hall.
They face charges of animal cruelty, which could mean a sentence of probation to as much as one year in the California Youth Authority.
