U.S. Airlines Post Dismal February On-Time Record
Less than 69-percent of U.S. airline flights arrived on time during February.
"USA Today" reports the performance record for the 20 largest U.S. airlines marked the seventh worst month for airline performance since the Department of Transportation began using its current methodology in 1995.
The February DOT data also reflected a drop in performance from January, when just over 72-percent of flights arrived on time.
For statistical purposes, flights are considered on time if they arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.
Among individual airlines, Deltas 77-percent on-time performance was the best among large U.S. airlines, while American at 61-percent was the worst.
JetBlue flight 515 from Newark, New Jersey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida was the most delayed flight, never arriving on time during the month.
American Airlines flight 1763 from Chicago OHare to Orange County, California was the second worst, arriving late 96-percent of the time.
As for airports, Oakland, Salt Lake City and Phoenix posted the highest on-time rates, while Chicago OHare, New York LaGuardia and Newark Liberty were the worst.
