According to the Sheriff's Department, the wreck happened around 6:30p.m. when a car ran off the road near the Birdseye Loop, hit a guard rail and flipped over. Deputies say the car landed upside down, submerged in water.
Rescuers were able to get both the driver and passenger out a short time later. The driver, 44-year-old Anthony Bonifer, of Jasper, was taken to Memorial Hospital with a knee injury. The passenger, Ryan Utterback, was also taken to Memorial Hospital, but was later transferred to St. Mary's with serious injuries.
