Two Tri-State Communities Warning of Phone Scams

Authorities in Jasper and in Gibson County want you to be aware of a phone scam targeting people in the Tri-State.

Jasper Police say they are following several reports of phone scammers offering to install free home security devices, which, they say, are endorsed by law enforcement.

In Gibson County, some residents are getting similar calls from a phone number traced back to the Dominican Republic.

To protect yourself, never give out personal information over the phone.  And if you suspect a scam, call police.

I wonder if they're related but I received a call like that, too. The lady told me I'm getting a free advanced home alarm system and all I needed to do was provide them my bank details to "confirm my identity." But as much as it would be nice to get that new alarm system, I was suspicious. So I looked up the caller's phone number and came up with http://www.callercenter.com/802-488-3051.html . Looks like the call was a scam and several people have been getting such calls.

Another scam everyone should be aware of is the Amway Tool Scam. Google "Stop The Amway Tool Scam Wordpress" for more information, and forward this to every non-Distributor/IBO you know, so they don't get scammed.
