Holiday World's Family Feud

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: January 11, 2013
Officials with Holiday World have released a statement, after a Vanderburgh County judge placed control of the amusement park in the hands of its former president's widow.

Lori Koch has been named majority owner of the holding company that operates the park.  Her husband, Will, had served as president, until his death in 2010.

After Will's death, his brother Dan took over, but Lori sued for control in 2011, according to court documents. Following the judge's decision, Dan was fired.  He is now appealing.

In what is being called the park's only statement on the matter, a spokesperson says the ruling is not expected to interfere with park operations.

"Holiday World & Splashin' Safari have been owned and operated by the Koch family of Santa Claus, Indiana, since the park opened as Santa Claus Land in 1946.  Following the death of park CEO and President Will Koch in 2010, questions involving the interpretation of the company's Shareholders Agreement arose. Koch family members turned the issue over to the court system.
Regardless of the outcome, the park will continue to be owned and operated by members of the Koch family. Holiday World & Splashin' Safari will open for the 2013 season in May."
