Next week, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke plans to announce which contractor will be moving forward downtown hotel construction.

He's holding one-on-one meetings with each council member to bring them up to speed with the plans before he makes his recommendation Tuesday. The mayor says all of the council has agreed to meet with him except Al Lindsay. Lindsey recently told the Courier & Press he would rather keep those kind of meetings public instead of private.

"I suspect Councilman Lindsay is just trying to play politics," said Mayor Winnecke, "which is unfortunate. Enough is enough. This is an important project. It will move forward with or without the participation of Councilman Lindsay."

Mayor Winnecke says the new hotel project will create not only construction jobs on the short term but also long-term jobs at the hotel.
