A break-in attempt at a home in northern Vanderburgh County could have ended much worse.  The homeowner heard what she believed to be an intruder and loaded her gun.
It happened Saturday night at a home in the McCutchanville area. Sheriff's deputies say the woman heard someone trying to get into her door just before midnight. She called 9-1-1... But also grabbed a pistol.
During the call to 911, the homeowner is heard firing at the intruder. The intruder was gone when Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene.
The intruder allegedly returned to the house and attempted to break-in again while Deputies were at the home. They arrested 21-year-old Trent Thompson of Newburgh. Investigators believe Thompson had been drinking and they say he told them he thought he was at a friend's house. He has since bonded out of jail.

We've edited out information in the call to 911 that may identify the caller.
