The day after President Obama addressed the country, Indiana Governor Mike Pence lays out his plan for the Hoosier state.  Tuesday evening, Governor Pence delivered his 2013 State of the State Address in a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly.

Indiana Governor Mike Pence is ready to start the next chapter of Indiana history.

"If we will remain bold, confident, and optimistic, I am positive we can lead our state from good to great," Gov. Mike Pence said.

But, there are still difficult times for the quarter million Hoosiers out of work.  Number one on the Governor's list, job creation.

"I believe our state must live within its means and never spend a single dollar more than it collects. So, first, we have submitted an honestly balanced budget, with no tax increases. Second, our budget holds the line on spending," Gov. Pence said.

Education is also on his agenda.  Pence says too many schools are lagging behind, and he wants every child to have access to a world-class education.

"That's why we proposed an increase in funding for schools each of the next two years, with the second year based on school performance and an additional $6 million in teacher excellence grants to increase pay for our high-performing teachers," Gov. Pence said.

"We have to give our kids, our future, every opportunity for success. That means quality schools, choices about their education and multiple pathways to success. The more our kids succeed in the classroom, the more Indiana will succeed," Gov. Pence said.

The Republican also touched on improving roads, better services for veterans, and putting taxpayers first.  Governor Pence wants to lower income taxes by 10% for Hoosiers over the next two years.

"Hoosiers work hard. They labor in a fragile economy. They save and invest in their families and businesses and family farms. Why wouldn't we want them to keep more of what they earn," Gov. Pence said.

He believes the state has to do better by getting the economy moving and succeeding in the classroom.
