Children Lacking Sleep May Encounter Health Issues In Adulthood
(Washington, DC) -- Researchers say children who dont get enough sleep have a higher risk of depression and weight gain later in life.
Several studies in the journal, "Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine," show children who slept less than others reported higher anxiety and depression levels in adulthood.
Lead researcher Dr. Elsie Taveras says there are consequences when children dont sleep well.
Taveras says restricting sleep changes hormone levels which could lead to hunger and weight gain.
In addition, research also shows children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder commonly have sleep problems.
