The Governor of Illinois is asking the president to declare 15 southern counties disaster areas. Governor Rod Blagojevich wants to get help to the victims of last months severe flooding. This includes Gallatin and White counties, where floodwaters did significant damage to hundreds of homes and business. If President Bush declared the counties federal disaster areas, residents would be eligible for grants and loans to help with their losses. The Governors request comes one week after FEMA teams came to Illinois to assess the damage.
