Jason Koger's hands tell a story, a story of both panic and heartbreak, but also courage and strength, and a story of unimaginable opportunity. Koger explains, "Would you ever imagine that i was going to be on Hawaii Five-O?"
It all started with a mysterious email, someone wanting to talk to Jason face to face, or in this case, Skype., "The guy that I talked to was standing and in the background it said, 'Hawaii Five-O,' so that's kinda when i knew what it was for."
Hawaii Five-O is going retro, bringing back a popular original episode about a man with prosthetic hands. And whose better hands for the part than Jason's, "They took pictures, measurements of this hand, and they made this hand look like a glove for Peter Weller. Peter Weller and I worked together. Peter Weller is the amputee/villan in the show, so you see Peter Weller's face, and you see my hands."
The acting gig also meant jason and his family would share an amazing trip to Hawaii Those 16 hour days meant for fast friendships on set. "He's probably not going to say this, but they were unbelievably impressed with what he could do," Jasons wife, Jenny, tells us.
But the story of Jason's hands starts far from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. In 2008, Jason was electrocuted by a downed power line. "I wake up in the morning and the first thing that probably goes through my head is- I don't want to be an amputee today, but I am."
Touch Bionics donated Jason's $170,000 hands. Jason also had his face on camera for a moment - in the post office scene he was walking out when the detectives were walking in.
