The organization will move into the old VA clinic on Walnut Street next week. It will open its doors to the public for the first time Sunday afternoon. Contractors and volunteers have been renovating the building for months. Executive Director Tracy Gorman says many residents have put their blood, sweat and tears into the state-of-the-art building.
"So many of our residents truly have given 40, 50, 60 hours a week that they've wanted to be here, and that they've volunteered to be here, making this happen," says Gorman. "When I see their excitement and when I see their buy-in, that blesses my heart."
The building was $1.7 million dollar project -- funded entirely through grants and private donations. The Evansville Rescue Mission says it won't have a dime of debt at the project's completion.
