US & World Summary --- American Airlines Apologizes To Customers (Fort Worth, TX) -- Cancelled flights and disgruntled customers are once again on the menu for American Airlines. The troubled company is expected to spend at least one more day inspecting its MD-80 aircraft. Nearly 15-hundred flights were cancelled Tuesday and Wednesday and roughly 900 will be cancelled today. American Airlines Marketing Executive Vice President Dan Garton says the interruption is unacceptable, and he is apologizing to customers. He says it is a great inconvenience, and the airline is humbled by the loyalty of their passengers. --- China Says It Foiled Olympic Terror Plot (Beijing) -- Chinese authorities say theyve foiled plots to kidnap foreigners and carry out suicide attacks involving the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Authorities in the northwestern region of Xinjiang say they detained 45 suspects and seized explosives and firearms in an operation that cracked two terrorist groups that were allegedly seeking to disrupt the Olympics. In announcing the arrests, police spokesman Wu Heping said, quote, "We are facing a real terrorist threat. All walks of life and the public should maintain a high degree of vigilance." --- Bush To Address Iraq Situation Today (Washington, DC) -- Its President Bushs turn to address the situation in Iraq. White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said the Presidents 12 to 15-minute speech is set for 11:30, Eastern time. The Bush speech follows two days of congressional testimony by General David Petraeus, the top U.S. military commander in Iraq. Perino said the Bush speech will cover progress in Iraq and challenges that remain. She called the ongoing war "hard work" and argued that it would be "dangerous" to remove U.S. troops from Iraq too quickly. --- New Gun Bill Passes Florida State Legislature A controversial new Florida gun bill is getting closer to becoming a law. The state House and now the Senate have passed a bill that would allow employees to carry a gun inside their locked car when they are at work. Opponents feared it would make access to a weapon too easy for a disgruntled employee, and that employers had a right to decide what can be brought on their private property. Those in favor argued the constitutional right to be protected. The bill now heads to the governor. --- Ohio Man Indicted For Threatening Black Supreme Court Justice (Washington, DC) -- An Ohio man faces a lengthy prison term for allegedly making racially motivated threats against the Supreme Courts only black justice and for threatening to blow up the Supreme Court building. According to CNN, David Tuason of Pepper Pike, Ohio allegedly sent threatening letters and e-mails to the Supreme Court and to Justice Clarence Thomas personally. The eight-count indictment alleges that Tuason threatened Thomas along with various African-American athletes and entertainers who affiliate with white women. --- Mother Of Reggae Icon Bob Marley Dies In Miami Bob Marleys mother is dead. Cedella Marley Booker passed away at her home in South Florida Tuesday after a long illness. Booker authored two books about her late son and even released two of her own music albums. She also frequently performed on stage with her grandchildren. Members of the Marley family are still making funeral arrangements. Bob Marley died in 1981 after battling cancer. --- Pete Wentz, Ashlee Simpson Engaged Singer Ashlee Simpson and her rocker boyfriend are headed down the aisle. According to E! Online, Simpson posted the announcement on the social networking site FriendsOrEnemies.com, which is promoted by Fall Out Boy rocker and soon-to-be-husband Pete Wentz . Simpson adds that she wanted their fans to be the first to know, possibly explaining why it was announced first on the website.
