White County Deputies Training for Active Shooting this Weekend

By: Chris Veech
Updated: February 8, 2013
It's the kind of tragedy at Sandy Hook we never want to see happen again. But law enforcent agencies from all over the country are training for that very situation just in case.

In White County, Illinois, more than a dozen officers will be taking part of an "active shooter" training session. Sheriff Doug Maier tells Eyewitness News the session will start at 8 a.m. tomorrow and last most of the day. It's happening at the Carmi Middle School, so they want neighbors to be aware that when you see police cruisers surrounding the building, it's just a drill. We're told there will be officers from several southern Illinois agencies there. They'll be training on Sunday as well.
