Senator Tomes Pushing to Name I-69 Extension After Fallen Police Officer

Plans to name part of the I-69 extension after a local police officer killed in the line of duty are still on hold. Indiana Senator Jim Tomes of Wadesville is one of the people behind a measure to honor Officer Michael Deno. 24-year-old Deno was shot and killed in a traffic stop nearly 13 years ago. He had been on the force for a year.
Senator tomes wants to name I-69 between Interstate 64 and the Patoka River Bridge after Deno. Right now, the legislation to do so is reportedly stuck in the Senate's Homeland Security Committee. Tomes says he is calling on members and encouraging them to have a hearing on the idea.
