Vote Expected Thursday on Rockport Gasification Plant

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: February 21, 2013
We should learn Thursday if Indiana Gasification's synthetic gas plant proposal for Rockport will move forward.

State legislators are expected to vote on the 2 point 8 billion dollar project.  The bill calls for the plant's developers to periodicially refund the state for any losses it incurs.

The Indiana Finance Authority has signed a 30-year contract with the plant's developers to buy it's gas and sell it on the open market.

Vectren, and several other utility companies say Indiana gas customers will lose money over the deal, while Indiana Gasification says the deal will save consumers money.

We have a crew in Indianapolis covering today's vote.  We will have more on this story later on Eyewitness News.
