Indiana deer hunters set a record in 2012. Statistics from the Department of Natural Resources show more than 136,000 deer were killed by hunters statewide during the recent season. That is a six percent increase from 2011 and a significant jump from the previous record of 134,000 set in 2010. Officials say most of the increase can be traced to liberalized hunting laws that went into affect last year including a longer gun season and the use of crossbows.
