Mater Dei High School students won a national competition and set a record. The competition, held in California, challenged students to design a vehicle that traveled the farthest, using the least amount of fuel. Mater Dei students won a ten-thousand dollar first place prize for building a vehicle that got more than 28-hundred miles per gallon. They surpassed the former record by nearly a thousand miles. 33 teams competed some with college students. Mater Dei students took home a third place prize as well.
