UPDATE:
Casino Aztar continues to move forward in changing its name to Tropicana Evansville. This is a story we exclusively reported to you Monday evening. Tuesday, Evansville's Design and Review Committee voted unanimously in favor of the ideas. Details continue to surface about the layout, colors and timeline to make this change official. If all goes according to plan, new signage and the official name change will all be in effect by the end of June. "Tropicana is certainly a much more brand-recognized name in the gaming industry, so I think for those considering coming here they recognize that and say...hey, maybe we'll go check that out," Aztar General Manager Ward Shaw tells us. He is giving his presentation to the city's design and review committee, Laying out the eight green and yellow aluminum based signs that will replace the 17 Aztar ones, "We've chosen not to replace all of it, really to try and make it less busy and really focus on bigger, sort of more pop signage that will communicate that sense of arrival better." Tropicana is an international company with locations in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Aruba. Shaw says this rebranding initiative is great for remaining competitive and boosting downtown entertainment adding "We got nine different food and beverage outlets, two separate hotels and we want out customers as they're getting close to say..wow, there's something going on down there, there's alot of things taking place and this is a good place to go have some fun." These changes are part of Aztar's 19 million dollar makeover of its riverfront properties, which will likely mean a very different view for people traveling along riverside drive. Up next on the agenda, Aztar must give a presentation to the Redevelopment Commission March 5th and receive permission to proceed with these ideas from the Indiana Gaming Commission. Many more chips to cash in before all is said and done.

On Tuesday, Aztar General Manager Ward Shaw made the announcement official, and unveiled what some of the new signage will look like. The name change is expected to be complete by June. Between now and then, 17 signs will be switched to the Tropicana logo, including a Vegas style sign near the casino along the Evansville Riverfront.
