The March 1st deadline is fast approaching and many groups, including educators and park rangers, are worried about its cuts.

White House figures show Indiana schools could lose out on more than $13 million in federal funding, leading to possible teacher layoffs.  Illinois could lose more than $33 million while Kentucky could lose more than $11 million.  National parks, including the Lincoln Boyhood Home in Spencer County, could lose more than one-hundred million.  Those cuts could force cuts in hours, maintenance, and programs.

"One program would be the farm program, where we spend a lot of effort working with community partners to develop heritage species of animals," says Park Superintendent Kendell Thompson.  "If we lose that, we'll be set back for years."

The sequester could also hit some Tri-State flights.  Three Kentucky airport towers, inclulding one in Owensboro, could shut down if no deal is struck.
