Police Find A Gun At Southridge High School

Updated: February 27, 2013
A Dubois County teenager faces charges after police say they found a gun in his truck while the truck was on school property.
18-year-old Cole Meyer is charged with one count of possession of a firearm on school property.  He is also a student at Southridge High School.
Indiana State Police say they were conducting a routine drug sweep at the school when a K9 officer stopped at Meyer's truck.  Officers got Meyer out of school and had him open the truck.  When he did, officers found a loaded 9 mm Taurus handgun in the center console.  Meyer was then taken into custody.
Police say they want to remind people that unless they are a law enforcement officer, or unless they have special permission from the school, it is illegal to have a gun on school property in Indiana.
