We continue to follow the steps Casino Aztar is taking to change and re-brand its properties as Tropicana Evansville. Today, the Redevelopment Commission awards sign and construction permits. The casino plans to take down its 17 signs and put up eight new ones that would stay lit 24-7. Also in the works, General Manager Ward Shaw tells Eyewitness News "the district" will fall under the Tropicana umbrella as well.

"The district, I think has always been somewhat confusing to some," said Shaw. "I think it was a good idea when they did that several years ago. I think it's confusing to some that have not been able to relate that as part of the Tropicana or currently Aztar property, and so marketing that all as just Tropicana I think will be better for us going forward."

Shaw wouldn't release names but says businesses are already interested in the few vacancies in the district. Aztar meets with the zoning board later this month. It hopes to  complete re-branding by mid June.
