Posey County Treasurer Issue

Some Posey County leaders say the County Treasurer is not qualified to do the job, and is putting the county at risk because she's not fully bonded.  One County Commissioner is suggesting Treasurer Chris Harp vacate the office until the bond issue is resolved.  Posey County Democratic Chairman, Ed Adams says he is filing a lawsuit against Harp, because he says she does not meet state requirements.

Posey County is a rural county, a farm county.  Democratic Chairman, Ed Adams says he enjoys it here, and he wants things to run by the law.

"I guess what's on people's mind right now is that tax season is getting ready to come around the corner, and we don't have a fully bonded Treasurer in place," Ed Adams said.

Adams says by Indiana Code, the Treasurer should be bonded for $300,000.  Commissioners announced at their Monday meeting County Treasurer Chris Harp is only bonded for $100,000.  Adams says Harp should have been bonded when she took office January 1st.  But Republican Party Chair, Greg Newman says Harp applied for the bond in December, but did not get it until February.  Adams now says he's filing a lawsuit against Harp.

"To protect the citizens and the assets of this county. I think it's very important that we have somebody in that position that is, meets state requirements and right now, that's not happening," Adams said.

It's the talk of the town, but not many people want to talk to us about it.

We stopped by the Posey County Treasurer's Office, but we were told Harp was out of town at a treasurer's conference.

"I'm very frustrated. I think this should've been handled three months ago. I don't think the county should have been put through this scrutiny for this one position," Adams said.

Commissioner Carl Schmitz says the Commission hopes to know more about this situation within two weeks.  Our calls to Chris Harp have not been returned.

Comments

Please check closely into the smear tactics of Ed Adams. He alone is not, as you put it "some Posey County leaders." He has attempted to smear other Posey County officials. All other counties need $100,000 bonding; Posey is the only one needing $300,000. Who interfered there? And why did Mr. Adams excalate this claim after Ms. Harp left town for a Treasurer's conference. He does not look out for Posey County, but for his own personal satisfaction. And it is underhanded. Why would this tv station want to carry this story. Look more closely to the details...
