Shawn Gallagher goes to Christ the King Church in Evansville. He says he wants the next pope to be skilled in handling global affairs and to be able to connect with everyone.
"We want the next pope to connect with Americans, but we have to be mindful that this is a global religion, and he has to be able to connect with people all over the world who may not have the same culture we have," he says.
Fr. Alex Zenthoefer of Christ the King says he also wants someone who can handle global affairs, but he wants the next leader to act as a fatherly figure to Catholics worldwide.
"Someone who's going to guide the church, someone who's going to shepherd the church and provide a real fidelity to Christ, so we can all follow him and look where he's looking," he says.
While some American Cardinals, including Timothy Dolan of New York, are being talked about as possible successors, some local Catholics say they don't see an American being named as the church's next leader.
