The Evansville Fire Department honored one of their own Wednesday.

The department named Richard Howard as firefighter of the year.  Howard is a 20 year veteran and senior fire investigator for the department.

Howard was the first Evansville firefighter to graduate from the Southwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

As firefighter of the year, Howard received a wall plague from Kiwanis and a 100 dollar gift card from Fifth Third Bank and Evansville Firefighters Federal Credit Union, and a custom ring from Firefighters Local 357.

The Green River Kiwanis will also create a billboard with Howard's picture, proclaiming his accomplishment.

Howard is the 32nd recipient of this annual award.
