Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear signs a bill that changes the age students can drop out of school.  But he doesn't get the final say.  Now school boards across the Bluegrass State can choose to increase the dropout age.  The age for Kentucky teens to legally drop out of school goes from 16 to 18.  But the law does not require the age to go up at every school.  It simply gives each district the option to raise the age.  But, if 55% or more Kentucky schools make the move, it becomes law for everyone in the Commonwealth.

"You don't want to be the county that doesn't raise your drop out rate, you'll get known as the dropout county. I wouldn't want that distinction so, I think this is a good thing and I think they all will. I think it will be more than 55. It's one of those snowballs, once it gets rolling, it will be a good snowball," Henderson County School Board Member, Lisa Baird said.

No word on when the Henderson County Board of Education will vote on the issue, but two board members say they will most likely vote yes.

Webster County School Superintendent, James Kemp says you can't deny somebody an education, and this bill will help.  The Webster County School Board plans to vote on April 8th.
