Although nearly everyone in the tri-state and quite a few people across the midwest were surprised by this mornings earthquake, none were probably more surprised than some Mt. Carmel residents. Bricks of an apartment building came crumbling down with the earths vibration. Many residents were asleep when it was happening. One man, Alan Clem, had just fallen asleep in his recliner after a long nights work. The quake quickly ended his catnap. Damage to Clems home was extensive. His front porch was ripped from its foundaton. The home of another Mt. Carmel resident, Mamie Feldman, was so damaged, she wasnt allowed back in. Luckily, with all of the citys reports, no one was seriously injured.
