Government Upgrades Investigation Into Jeep Liberty Suspension Safety Issue
(Washington, DC) -- The Jeep Liberty continues to be plagued by problems with its suspension system following reports that some drivers have lost control of their Toledo, Ohio-built SUVs.
The government agency that keeps watch on safety issues says its upgraded their investigation into ball joint problems that have affected models of the popular SUV since 2002.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports theyve gotten 22 complaints of upper ball joint separation on the front wheels which could lead to the affected wheel collapsing, resulting in an accident.
So far the agency says most of the incidents have happened at low speed, but several have occurred at higher speeds. In one case, the driver said he was almost hit by an oncoming truck.
Chrysler LLC says it too has received complaints and is continuing to investigate the cause of the problem.
This is not the first time that the Liberties have dealt with the ball joint problems.
Back in 2006, 800-thousand Liberties were recalled to fix the front lower ball joints that were experiencing looseness.
