Fewer High Schoolers Finding Summer Jobs
More teens will be looking for summer jobs this year but fewer will be getting them.
The "Wall Street Journal" reports that after hitting an all-time low last year, teen summer employment is expected to fall again this summer to the lowest rate in the 60-year history of government jobs data.
Working teens between 16 to 19 will fall to 34-percent of the population, down from 45-percent in 2000 and a high of 48-point-five-percent in 1989.
The expected drop comes as more teens prepare to look for summer jobs.
A new Junior Achievement survey due out next month shows a 22-percent increase in the number of teens who want to work this summer.
But, with rising gas prices, many teens are also facing increased job competition from adults as well.
