So says Randy Roberts, one of the victims who will share in a 100-million-dollar settlement agreed to just before jury selection in a civil case was to begin yesterday. Six people died and 16 more were injured in the fire at 69 West Washington Street. Chicago emergency officials were criticized for their response to the blaze, while the contractors were accused of faulty construction. The City of Chicago will be responsible for half the settlement, 50-million-dollars, though a majority of that will come from insurance. The company that managed the county building and a contractor will combine to pay 25-million-dollars. Cook County itself, two security firms, and four other companies are on the hook for the rest. Those sources also report that Wells had someone elses prescription drugs with him at the time of the crash. Initial tests showed no signs of illegal drugs in Wells system, but officials are waiting for more results. Police cited Wells for negligent driving and released him Sunday night, but more charges are possible. The Michigan natives semi slammed into the CTA Red Lines Cermak-Chinatown station. Two women died in the crash, and 21 more people were hospitalized. --- Rev Wright: Criticism Amounts To "Attacks On The Black Church" (Washington, DC) -- Attacks on him are actually "attacks on the black church." Thats what Barack Obamas controversial former pastor told the National Press Club. Reverend Jeremiah Wright called for a national dialogue on race and religion. Obama is confronting an ongoing controversy over his long-term association with Wright and his controversial sermons, which some have criticized as anti-American. Obama has been trying to distance himself from Wright and move past the controversy, without much success. --- Obama Donates More Rezko-Linked Cash To Charity (Chicago) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is donating more money linked to indicted fundraiser Tony Rezko to charity. Judge Vincent Gaughan has held nearly all of Kellys court proceedings behind closed doors. The singer is on trial for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl, and Gaughan says opening the trial to the media would cost Kelly the right to a fair trial. His trial is expected to start May 9th. --- School District To Allow Commercial Programming On Buses (St. Charles) -- Hannah Montana will soon replace "Wheels On The Bus" for students headed to one suburban school district.
